Over the past few years we have each been shocked and moved by the incredible migration of refugees from countries such as Syria into Europe. The suffering of these everyday people suffering extraordinary trials has touched us all.In Winchester we can feel a long way from these issues but there have been many local people working to make a difference. Churches Together has a specific Champion working on behalf of Refugees. Her name is Jo Pellat.
Jo works with a local team who have fundraised and also co-ordinated with groups and support services working in the UK, in Calais and across Europe. You can read more about what the team does in our Champions pages.
One thing we are aware of is that every city in the UK has the potential to provide hospitality and support to refugees. Jo explains:
“There is an ongoing need for rental accommodation from private landlords (actioned through the City Council) if we are to welcome any more refugee families into our area.”
If anyone is able to offer accommodation please contact Jo Pellatt on refugees@ctwin.org.uk
The Winchester Churches Refugee Support Group is currently recommending support of the charity Luna Children a child-centred charity that helps children who have experienced trauma to move forward with their lives. More information can be found on their website http://lunachildren.org.uk/
Finally do continue to pray for this unfolding situation. For those travelling across Europe and for those in danger both near and far.
